I recently heard a tape that pointed out that a child's initial moral understanding is shaped by series. Bambi, Pinnoccio, and The Little Mermaid were good morality tales, but the Disney versions are stripped of much of the original morality. You can probably find the original books in your library. These are some books we have enjoyed reading together as a family. They have good moral lessons and provide good starting points for discussions.
Factoid:"101 Dalmatians & Peter Pan (Wendy) are the only 2
Disney cartoon features with both parents who are present and don't die
throughout the movie." What is Disney trying to tell us? Probably
nothing. Characters without parents are just more sympathetic. But we
identify with the main characters of stories, and we need to think
about the effects on our children, making allowance for the fact that
some children are more sensitive than others.
